I would suggest sucking it up and finishing a campaign once. Once you do that, it opens up some more options, even if you start a new character.
As for having 1 main, I have between 1 and 4 "main". I usually just deal with 2, and have been pushing to finish the games with 1 of them first, and then will play the other a bit more, but I have 7 and occasionaly I bounce around with them depending on my mood.

Happened to me also.
So what i did is to delete everything except for my 23 months Warrior in Prophecies.
Continued working on Prophecies Campaign and earned Protector of Tyria Title.
Finished GW|eotn
Now working on Factions (in Seiji Quarter? can remember the name...just finished the mission with "chaos" bosses)
and I keep myself poor so I don't get into "temptation" of creating a new character.

I'm like that a bit too, can't stand new characters but want more for the minis after a year >.<
I say, pick your favorite profession, then pick your favorite face/hair/color then weird something that makes it hard to see it, only professions where you cannot do that is monk, ele, and paragon. That removes most of your complaints. As for height, I cannot stand being short *probably cuz I'm a giant in RL* so just go with how tall you are in RL. If your short, go for a short character, if your tall, go wit ha tall character, that way you feel like your looking at a *guessing* slim size of you .
After getting far in either the campaign, lvl 20, or titles, you should not want to delete him in fear of losing the progress. Like me and my many character's whose name I wanna change *mainly paragon*.

:O You sound just like me lol. Ive level 12 characters to level 20 and only 2 remain today, ive had countless others which ive made and just deleted because I dont like their hair or they are too short....
Trick is just to focus on one character no matter how much you dont like it, thats whats got me through campaigns

geez, I have the opposite problem, --once I create a character I have a really really really hard time deleting it---even my mules have been around for sometime (I have been able to delete a few of them---but only because people wanted to see combos of hair/skin/etc and my mules arent doing much anyways----).
yes the packrat cant even get rid of characters!!
so OP make a few characters, play them and ya'know you CAN buy more armor for each one (more than one set)....and just get used to YOUR unique character.

Cosyfiep, you and me both mate
I keep buying new slots cause once created I cant seem to get myself to delete one of my girls, each one is created with a story/history/character in my head and it would be like 'killing' them to delete them...
yes I know - get a life ....

Are you having fun when you delete and remake a char?
If yes - then it's perfectly fine.
I've deleted like 5+ assassin in the last few days. The plan is to go for survivor (again) - but even if they don't die they get trashed. Sometimes I hate the armour they are wearing, sometimes the name, the haircut, the hair colour or they just die.
BUT I am having fun whenever I make a new char and dash him though Shing Jea.
So even if I do spend 5 hours doing something - the delete him and do the same thing over again - I am having fun.
And that's that matters.

I've got my main character (nec) which I've had since I've started, she's been my primary, but I've recently started working on a ranger.
Everyone has their preferences with classes, though, and I was adamant that necro's were the best (or, for want of a better term "more interesting") :P Recently, though, I've becoming quite fond of my R/Mo. Simply because it's something different.
With my nec, I got help, most all the time, I was new to the game, but with my ranger I'm determined to do the whole thing myself and actually LISTEN to the campaign storylines. Maybe this is what you can do to fix your complusion?
The rest of my slots have been deleted and replaced with characters many times, but if you pick a character and think "I want to know how this damn story ends!" that should get you there.
Keep one character, if for no other reason than to see the story end. It's like holding a book in your hand and only reading the first few chapters. They're kinda boring at the start, but once you're into it, you can't put it down.
Instead of being addicted to making new characters, be addicted to making it to the end. Find out how the story really ends for yourself. Get all the elites.
If you're like me, you'll enjoy watching your character in the cut-scenes. Gives you that sense of achievement (something I didn't have with my nec, but do with my ranger, since I was always a tag along with my first character).
Make a character. Stick with it. Finish the story. Stop looking at what everyone else has, you can get all that later when you start a NEW character to take the whole way through. You can do it! Self-discipline!
Have the faith.

Wikipedia....
Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) is a mental disorder where an individual is excessively concerned and preoccupied with an imagined or minor defect in their appearance. They may complain of several specific features or a single feature of their appearance, or a vague feature or general appearance. The preoccupation causes them significant psychological distress that impairs important functioning (e.g. occuppational or self-care), or social aspects of their lives (APA, 2000)[1] Culture and clinician bias may play a significant part in the subjectivity behind determining what physical appearance is considered 'normal' and who they diagnose with this disorder (Kress, Eriksen, Rayle & Ford, 2005)[2].
It is generally diagnosed in those who are extremely critical of their physique or self-image, despite the fact there may be no noticeable disfigurement or defect.
